Takeya calls out ruling coalition over string of policy negligence, failures

On July 15, Komeito Chief Representative Toshiko Takeya spoke before party supporters, urging the coalition government led by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi to focus on improving the daily lives of the general public. Families, she said, are being hit hard by rising food and energy costs while the government continues to fall behind in addressing their distress—a disturbing tendency that has emerged ever since Komeito severed its coalition partnership with the Liberal Democratic Party.

Another issue that the Takaichi administration has failed to move on is the LDP’s culture of illicit political funding. Takeya pointed out that Komeito will keep pushing for new regulations to crack down on donations from companies and organizations.

Furthermore, Takeya continued to voice concern over the government’s moves to undermine Japan’s “three non-nuclear principles” disavowing the possession and production of nuclear weapons, nor permitting their deployment on Japanese soil. She said that Japan, as the only country in the world to be attacked with nuclear arms, had adopted the three principles as irrevocable national policy and that any attempt to loosen their restrictions would upend decades of postwar pacifism.
