Komeito reaffirms commitment to worldwide demining effort

On July 14, Komeito officials led by Chief Representative Toshiko Takeya welcomed Atul Khare, UN Assistant Secretary-General who heads the Department of Operational Support, to discuss the UN’s peacekeeping activities. They agreed to cooperate on the effort to free the world from the threat of landmines. The UN representative cited Komeito for its ongoing work in building peace, especially the party’s support of demining programs in various countries. Takeya said that Komeito intends to work closely with the Cambodian Mine Action Centre and United Nations Mine Action Service to develop systems to detect and remove mines and provide them to nations in need.
