Three parties take next step toward further integration

On June 26, the top leaders of the Centrist Reform Alliance, Constitutional Democratic Party and Komeito met in the Diet and agreed to establish a consultative body to coordinate the three parties in such areas as organizational structure, policy agendas and election cooperation. The goal of the integration, CRA president Ogawa said earlier, was to lay a viable, centrist groundwork to replace the current conservative ruling coalition led by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi.

While Takeya said Komeito endorsed the formation of the consultative body, CDP President Shun-ichi Mizuoka said further discussion within his party would be needed to fully endorse the proposal.
