On June 16, the Diet Affairs chairpersons of the Centrist Reform Alliance (CRA), Constitutional Democratic Party (CDP) and Komeito met, agreeing that hearings of experts should be held to advance discussions to further restrict political donations to individual parliamentarians from corporate and outside lobbyist entities. Their effort aims directly at the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), whose members have been repeatedly engaged in shady Political Funding Control Act dealings. Criticizing the LDP for deferring on committing to such a crackdown, the three parties said a solution to the issue must be prioritized.
