Japan must maintain anti-nuclear arms principles: Takeya

Speaking to reports on June 9, Komeito Chief Representative Toshiko Takeya reiterated her party’s opposition to reported moves by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s administration to revise the third of Japan’s cornerstone three-point policy not to produce, possess or permit nuclear weapons on its soil. She said because the “three non-nuclear principles” has long been endorsed by the public, any discussion to institute any changes necessitates, above all, extensive Diet discussion. She therefore urged the government to exercise the utmost prudence going forward.
