Tripartite proposal seeks to revise supplementary budget bill

On June 3, the Centrist Reform Alliance, Constitutional Democratic Party and Komeito jointly proposed that the fiscal 2026 supplementary budget bill submitted by the coalition government of the Liberal Democratic Party and Japan Innovation Party be revised in order to focus more on improving the quality of people’s lives and safeguarding their jobs.

Toshiko Takeya, chief representative of Komeito, speaking to her party’s Central Secretariat later that day, said that the government’s bill contains numerous unspecified outlays and thus, it should be redefined to prioritize aid to benefit low-income earners and families with dependents. Under the three-party proposal, this would include a subsidy to alleviate the cost of school lunches and a cash payout to be dispensed before the start of summer break.
