CRA’s Yamamoto attends international parliamentarians’ meeting

Kanae Yamamoto, a former Komeito member who serves as a senior official in the newly formed Centrist Reform Alliance (CRA), took part in the 152nd Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly held in Istanbul, Türkiye, from April 15 to 19. Yamamoto was a delegate of parliamentarians representing Japan and, at the assembly’s Committee on Democracy and Human Rights, called on governments to adopt mechanisms to transcribe International Humanitarian Law (IHL) principles into actual practice. She went on to affirm CRA’s commitment to strengthen the application of those principles—which her party also holds as a founding tenet—to be applied in Japan on an institutional basis.

Established in 1889, the IPU is a global organization of national parliaments that promotes inter-parliamentary cooperation. With 183 member countries and territories, it holds assemblies twice a year to facilitate dialogue on international issues. Japan joined in 1908, rejoined in 1952 after a wartime hiatus, and has since regularly sent delegations to its meetings.
