Taniai spoke at Ritsumeikan University’s Institute of International Relations and Area Studies even on Sep. 18
On September 18, Komeito House of Councillors chair Masaaki Taniai spoke at an event organized by Ritsumeikan University’s Institute of International Relations and Area Studies in Tokyo, where he called for an Asian iteration of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). In its Peacebuilding Vision issued in May, Komeito has been seeking to establish a multilateral framework in which nations, particularly in Northeast Asia, can discuss on a standing basis ways to promote peace and prevent conflict. Taniai said that while such organizations as the ASEAN Regional Forum exist, they are not permanent institutions, Komeito’s proposal to enable and encourage discourse on a convolution of challenges, ranging from historical and sovereignty disputes to other security issues, is crucial for the nations in the region and throughout the Asia-Pacific.
