Party comes out for recognizing Palestinian statehood
September 13 , 2025
On September 12, Komeito Chief Representative Tetsuo Saito met with reporters to clarify his party’s position on the Gaza conflict. Komeito, he said, seeks an immediate cessation to the war, release of all hostages and the securing of humanitarian relief for noncombatants in Gaza. He also expressed deep concern over Israel’s recent attack against Hamas officials in Qatar and the escalation of warfare to other nations in the Middle East. Saito concluded that Komeito has decided to support in principle the Japanese government’s formal recognition of a Palestinian state, particularly if the humanitarian crisis in the conflict zone continues to worsen.
