On September 11, Komeito General Secretary Makoto Nishida released a document analyzing the reasons for his party’s poor results in the August 2025 House of Councillors election and ways to remedy them. The internal review draws heavily from feedback from local Komeito legislators culled from regional discussion meetings held nationwide.

Among the five key weaknesses the review found were the loss of confidence of Liberal Democratic Party supporters and non-aligned voters; Komeito’s failure to attract voters in their 40s and 50s as well as those aged between 18 and 30; and a general rejection of the established political parties. It cited solutions to rectify these issues, which include sweeping reforms to the way the party brands itself as well as to its public outreach management, and to enact policies and programs that secure its place as a centrist political force driving meaningful reforms.
