Coalition parties approve review of medical expense benefit
February 5 , 2025
On February 4, Liberal Democratic Party Secretary General Hiroshi Moriyama and his Komeito counterpart, Makoto Nishida, agreed on the need to build flexibility into the state’s cap on the high-cost medical expense benefit as it pertains to long-term treatments. Nishida spoke with reporters later that day, stating how important it was to limit the cost of medical expenses for patients while alleviating the premiums that citizens pay for social services.Nishida acknowledged that cancer patient groups have expressed concerns that extended treatment could result in higher medical payments, forcing some people to halt treatment prematurely. He promised that Komeito would continue talks with the LDP in devising viable solutions to allay such concerns going forward.
