On January 29, Komeito Chief Representative Tetsuo Saito met with Izumi Nakamitsu, UN Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs. The UN official cited Komeito for persistently calling for Japan to participate as an observer in the third Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) to be held in New York in March. She also said Komeito’s proposal to establish an Asian version of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) to Chinese leaders this month, as a noteworthy step forward. Saito shared that his party will be sending a delegation to the TPNW meeting as it has on the two prior occasions.
