On November 7, Komeito officials led by party advisor Natsuo Yamaguchi met with members of the Japan-China Friendship Association (JCFA) at the Komeito headquarters in Tokyo. The JCFA delegation was led by Executive Vice President Cheng Yonghua, the former ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Japan.

In their meeting, the two sides agreed to take steps that would further facilitate dialogue and exchange between their countries. Executive Vice President Cheng cited Komeito for its role in building better bilateral relations, saying that the party has consistently maintained ties to develop trust with China. He also noted that in Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba’s speech on general policy made in October, the Japanese leader expressed his goal of pursuing ties of strategic reciprocity with China, which the JCFA executive said his government was prepared to engage in talks to forge and maintain such a relationship.

Yamaguchi said it was vital for channels of dialogue to remain open and expressed his hope that APEC and other forums will serve as opportunities for discussions between the top leaders of Japan and China.
