Yamaguchi meets with Philippines president

On August 16, Komeito Chief Representative Natsuo Yamaguchi called on Philippines President Bongbong Marcos in Manila, the first stop in Komeito’s three-ASEAN visit that includes Vietnam and Indonesia. In their meeting, the Philippine president and Yamaguchi shared the desire to forge an even stronger partnership going forward.

While recognizing the importance of promoting bilateral trade and commerce, President Marcos said it was equally important to work together in the security and defense realms. He added his hope that further exchanges will take place not only between the two governments but also between national legislators. Yamaguchi agreed, committing Komeito to cooperate in building the Philippines’ middle-income base as well as cooperating in maritime security and agriculture initiatives.
