Komeito Chief Representative Natsuo Yamaguchi attended the memorial ceremonies for the victims of the atomic bombings that were held respectively in Hiroshima on August 6 and Nagasaki on August 9. Yamaguchi later told reporters that the time was ripe to rid the world of nuclear weapons following the G7 summit held earlier in Hiroshima, with Japan working to bring about a mutually acceptable solution for the nations that possess nuclear weapons and the nations that disavow them. He also laid a wreath at the monument honoring the Korean victims of the Hiroshima bombing.
