On July 27, a Komeito task force on hate speech and hate crimes submitted a proposal to Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno urging stiffer legal sanctions. The proposal calls for Prime Minister Fumio Kishida visit Utoro, Kyoto, a community of resident Koreans that has suffered numerous cases of discriminatory acts over the years, speak with victims and call for a united stand against perpetrators. The task force is led by Masakazu Hamachi, Komeito’s House of Representatives member, who visited Utoro earlier in February this year.
