On June 2, members of a Komeito team on sexual crimes led by Policy Research Council chair Yosuke Takagi presented a proposal to Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno that seek harsher sentences on perpetrators of stalking as well as domestic and sexual violence. The call for a crackdown comes after a growing number of complaints from individuals working at talent agencies who have been sexually abused.

In their meeting with the chief cabinet secretary, Takagi said such abuse, regardless of a victim’s age or gender, ranked among the most despicable of criminal acts and should elicit stiffer legal sanctions. Under the Komeito proposal, liaison offices would be established at relevant state agencies and victims be provided with proper care and counseling.
