Komeito: More transparency to maximize budgetary efficacy

On April 28, Komeito House of Representatives member Hisashi Inatsu took part in a joint session of the Lower House committees on monetary and budgetary policy and national security. The session was held to examine ways to finance a sweeping reinforcement of Japan’s defense posture.Inatsu asked Nobushige Takamizawa, a visiting professor at the University of Tokyo, what will be needed to encourage grassroots support for the increased defense outlays. The scholar pointed out that it was necessary to achieve greater transparency and disclosure of ministerial activities, and by doing so, find ways to promote greater bureaucratic efficiency. He added that the government must share as much information as possible with the public to enable a broader discourse on the issue and to make an informed decision.
