Komeito holds online meeting with member of international nuclear-abolition group

Komeito officials spoke online on Apr. 24 with Tanya Ogilvie-White, a member of the International Group of Eminent Persons for a World without Nuclear Weapons.
On April 24, Komeito’s committee for the abolition of nuclear weapons held a joint meeting with the party’s committee for youth affairs, with Chief Representative Natsuo Yamaguchi and representatives from various NGOs attending. They spoke online with Tanya Ogilvie-White, Senior Research Advisor (SRA) at the Asia-Pacific Leadership Network and a member of the International Group of Eminent Persons for a World without Nuclear Weapons.
The Group, established by the Japanese government, draws experts from the US, UK, France, China and Russia, among others. In their meeting, SRA Ogilvie-White said that the world was facing an unprecedent crisis in which the use of nuclear weapons a very real possibility.
Yamaguchi expressed hope that the proposals that the Group came up with during its discussion held in Tokyo on April 4-5, would be reflected at the G7 summit to be held in Hiroshima in May.
