On January 18, Komeito Chief Representative Natsuo Yamaguchi met with Ulrika Modéer, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and UN Development Programme Director of the Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy, with the two agreeing to work together in promoting human security initiatives. The two shared their concerns over the covid pandemic, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, energy crisis and other major human security challenges.

While these challenges are highly complicated and convoluted, Director Modéer said she hopes to tackle each one by one. Yamaguchi agreed, saying that he looked to Japan to take the lead in returning to a rules-based international order as the Non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and the host of the G7 summit this year.
