Party submits proposal to PM Kishida on former Unification Church problem

On October 28, a Komeito commission on consumer protection submitted a proposal on assisting victims of so-called “spiritual merchandising” and other unconscionable practices of the former Unification Church. In addition to providing free legal and psychiatric counseling services for victims themselves, Komeito is calling for a government examination of the issues that members of a victim’s family experience and to extend counseling services to them as well. The proposal also includes expanding the rights of contractual refusal and stepping up legal sanctions against religious donations secured through coercive means.
