Komeito mourns loss of former PM Abe, expresses outrage at attack

Speaking with the press on July 8, Komeito Chief Representative Natsuo Yamaguchi expressed his deepest condolences over the death of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, who was gunned down by an assailant earlier that day. Yamaguchi denounced the attack, saying that such acts of violence must never be tolerated.Yamaguchi further described the assassination, which occurred just two days before the House of Councilors election, as a reprehensible assault on the very foundations of democratic society. He vowed that Komeito legislators would not cower from engaging with voters and see to fruition many of the social services initiatives and reforms that the former prime minister had sought to realize for the betterment of Japan.
