On June 17, Komeito House of Councilors member Toshiko Takeya toured a food warehouse operated by Good Neighbors Japan (GNJ), a nonprofit organization carrying out community outreach initiatives to promote food security. GNJ is partnering with the Central Union of Agricultural Cooperatives, the administrative arm of farmers supplying rice and other produce nationwide, to distribute a total of ten tons of rice to some 2,000 families by the start of July.

Komeito has been a major advocate of food banks, particularly those serving children and single parent households.
