On June 4, Komeito Chief Representative Natsuo Yamaguchi welcomed US Embassy Charge d’Affaires Joseph Young, currently the acting US ambassador to Japan who will be leaving his post shortly.

In their meeting, the senior US embassy officer said that the US-Japan partnership will be key in the success of initiatives to combat global climate change, which he explained is a core policy objective for US President Joe Biden’s administration. He gave high marks to Komeito for its work to transition Japan to a green economy and said he hoped for the party’s continued success in that effort.

Yamaguchi reaffirmed Komeito’s commitment to pushing forward climate change policy both domestically and globally. Agreeing with Charge d’Affaires Young, Yamaguchi said the two countries should work closely together and take on a leadership role for the rest of the world.
