Komeito calls for great care of businesses hurt by imminent limited lockdown

January 7 , 2021

On January 6, a Komeito delegation on pandemic measures submitted an urgent proposal to Yasutoshi Nishimura, the minister in charge of economic revitalization. The delegates, led by House of Representatives member Michiyo Takagi and other Komeito legislators, called for “utmost consideration” to be paid by those who will suffer the most from the declaration of national emergency that the government will be issuing shortly.

Under the declaration, bars, restaurants and other food service vendors will be asked to limit their operating hours even more than they are now. Komeito is seeking additional assistance, particularly for smaller food industry operators, to be allocated from the government’s special fund to combat the pandemic.

The proposal also aims to provide greater financial backing for hospitals to increase the number of beds and facilities reserved for COVID-19 patients and other programs to properly monitor and treat those with mild symptoms or are asymptomatic. Individuals and families experiencing dire financial difficulties will also be targeted for more extensive state support.
