On September 27, Natsuo Yamaguchi, who was reelected as chief representative of Komeito, chose Keiichi Ishii as party secretary general, which the delegates of the National Convention held that day approved.

Ishii said party executives are now strategizing ways to accelerate the transition of leadership to young members of Komeito while balancing the need to carry forward the experience base and relationships developed over the years by veteran legislators. He added that individuals will be selected based on their ability to best serve the coalition government and those who can best serve the party.
