On June 26, Komeito Chief Representative Natsuo Yamaguchi met with Karen Madeleine Farkas, the new Japan Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), reaffirming his party’s support for the Office and its activities. Representative Farkas, who assumed her post in April and cited Komeito’s ongoing backing of the UNHCR, asked for continued cooperation of the Japanese government in dealing with some 80 million refugees and internally displaced people worldwide.
