On June 4, Kazuo Kitagawa, who chairs Komeito’s Central Secretariat, met with reporters to explain his view on the 10 trillion-yen reserve fund being included in the second fiscal 2020 supplementary budget. Given that the pandemic’s impact on the economy remains unpredictable, he said, the reserve fund should allow the government to provide outlays in a prompt and decisive manner. He added that if a major appropriation was needed, then Komeito expected the government to consult in advance not with only his party but with the opposition parties as well.
