Needy citizens to get rent aid

Workers whose salaries have been reduced or laid off entirely by companies hit by the Covid-19 outbreak will be eligible for temporary state assistance in paying rent from April 30, according to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare. The ministry made its decision after Komeito submitted a proposal to ease existing regulations for such aid.Under the new ministerial guidelines, rent assistance will be provided to eligible workers for a minimum of three months and a maximum of nine months. The provision will also be extended to those laid off who have had to accept part-time positions to make ends meet, as well as to those who work on a freelance basis.
