Komeito to gov’t: urgent need to ramp up virus response steps

During a House of Representatives Budget Committee hearing held on February 3, Komeito members of parliament interpellated Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and other members of his government on the outbreak of the new coronavirus in Japan. Noritoshi Ishida, who chairs the party’s Policy Research Council, pointed out the growing shortage of face masks at retailers, leading to serious concerns among the public. He also underscored the need to create an agency dedicated to infectious disease contingencies as in the Centers for Disease Control in the United States. Abe agreed, saying the Japanese system is currently under major review.Search News
