Komeito Chief Representative Natsuo Yamaguchi spoke at a special party team set up to respond to the novel coronavirus outbreak on January 28. The Komeito team was established following the decision by the Cabinet led by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to officially declare the viral spread as a “quarantinable infectious disease” and implement the appropriate governmental protocols.

Yamaguchi told the team that the Japanese government should not wait for World Health Organization guidelines to adopt preventative action, saying that any delay could adversely impact the holding of the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics this summer.
