On April 9, a Komeito project team on combatting stalking as well as domestic and sexual violence chaired by House of Councillor member Kanae Yamamoto held a hearing with three women DV victims organizations. They met to discuss ways to protect parents and children from abuse and violence, with the advocacy groups calling for a unified approach on the issue.

Among the organizations at the hearing was the Japanese Association of Women’s Counselor that called on the government to step up ways to protect DV victims and mandating relevant public agencies to fully share information on abuse and DV cases. Another group, the Japanese Association of Women’s Protection Facility, cited the need for mid- to long-term post-trauma recovery programs for victims, while the non-profit National Women’s Shelter Network sought greater engagement of commercial organizations with DV victim support expertise as well as upgrading programs to raise public awareness on abuse and DV issues.
