On August 2, a Komeito group on environmental issues met with Environment Minister Masaharu Nakagawa to submit a list of priority policies that the party hopes the ministry will incorporate in its budget proposal for fiscal 2019.

The group, led by House of Representatives member Yasuyuki Eda, said Komeito is calling for initiatives to facilitate comprehensive plastic recycling, transition to an eco-friendly hydrogen-powered society and food loss reduction. He explained that Japan should take the lead in global discussions on maritime waste pollution and climate change at the G20 summit to be held at Osaka in June 2019.

Minister Nakagawa said that his ministry recognized the importance of the Komeito proposal and will be studying them for possible implementation.
