On December 29, Komeito Secretary General Yoshihisa Inoue and his Liberal Democratic Party counterpart Toshihiro Nikai met with People’s Republic of China President Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Inoue and Nikai were in China to meet with senior Chinese Communist Party officials to discuss ways to improve bilateral relations and cooperate in resolving regional issues. Nikai invited President Xi to visit Japan to take part in a summit meeting with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, while Inoue said that Komeito shared many of the points envisioned by the Chinese leader’s One Belt, One Road Initiative and would work with China in their realization.

President Xi’s One Belt, One Road Initiative seeks to expand on Eurasian trade ties and includes such programs as infrastructure development and energy-related partnerships.
