On March 10, Komeito Chief Representative Natsuo Yamaguchi welcomed His Excellency Lulama Smuts Ngonyama, Ambassador of South Africa to Japan, in Tokyo. The two discussed initiatives to strengthen economic cooperation and other bilateral exchanges. Yamaguchi said he had the privilege of attending Nelson Mandela’s address before the Japanese parliament in 1990, sharing that it was an event he would cherish for a lifetime. To this, Ambassador Ngonyama said Komeito went out of its way to welcome Mr. Mandela at a time when many other countries were reluctant to do so, an act of friendship that South Africa would never forget.
