Inatsu: Simplify, reduce auto-related taxes as local gov’t revenue
March 2, 2012
March 2, 2012: New Komeito House of Representative member Hisashi Inatsu urged the government to rationalize and reduce the categories of taxes levied on motor vehicle owners and transfer the authority to levy the revised auto tax as a revenue source for local governments.
Inatsu said the special tax system to finance road construction should be abolished and incorporated in the general accounts instead. He also called for the elimination of the sales tax on automobile purchases and integrating two other motor vehicle taxes to allay the cost burden on consumers.
